On Father’s Day, Tommy went with us to Ming Court, a delicious Asian restaurant on International Drive. While Amelia was discovering the joys of BBQ pork buns, we put Tommy in a high chair for the first time. He was a little small, so he slid around a lot, but he was secure and happy.

A week later, on his six-month birthday, I took him grocery shopping with me. Since he was bored sitting in the grocery cart seat, I gave him my shopping list, which he dutifully held up for me to see. I had to snap a few pictures, and you can see for yourself how cute this was.

Other developments in Tommy’s life at this point included his discovery of blowing raspberries (see the video below), which he would do all the time. For a while, it seemed as though he would blow raspberries when he had a dirty diaper, so we, the eager parents, interpreted this as his first real attempt at verbal communication. We tell people his first word was “PTHBTHP!” and it means, “I believe I have just filled my diaper with poop and would be ever so grateful if you would change it.”

He also outgrew the bathroom sink (it only took a month!), so his great grandmother (“Mommom”) bought him a bathtub that fits in most kitchen sinks. He took to this new bathtub as easily as he did the sink, and I settled into a routine of bathing him every night at a set time.

And while he still didn’t really play with things like toys, he did learn the joys of ripping up magazines, toying with the cordless telephone, and reaching for the remote control to the television. This lead to a few moments of amused exasperation, but his cuteness always prevailed.
